Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
